Power Within (2024)
This series of photos was part of an art exhibition called HUE-MANITY. This series captures Faith Gomez, a 13-year-old Mexican from Stockton who has sprouted as a boxer. In the past, she has won second place in the USA Boxing National Championship for the Junior Olympics in 2022. She then came back in 2023 to win gold. Faith started boxing at the age of 10 and has now become the top female boxer for her age/weight class in California and in the nation. Throughout my entire life I thought Faith was very inspirational. I want my audience to catch a glimpse of the dedication she puts into her training. I want you to see that she has such mental and physical strength along with discipline. I see that she remains humble and strives for greater goals for herself everyday. She has the ability to take critiques from her coach/trainer, learn from those mistakes, and apply that learning to become a better fighter. As I’ve captured these photos, I have become more inspired each day to become a better person. To see her train this hard for boxing makes me want to become better at chasing my own goals in life. Her phenomenal work ethic has contributed to her great skills in this sport.
Through this series of photos, we will explore aspects of Faith's training from cardio to boxing techniques. She is currently training for the Jr. Olympics in June of 2024 in hopes of bringing another win home. She now trains from her home gym with the help of her family and her father/trainer Simon to help her keep pursuing her boxing dreams.
